What is Wushu?
Wushu, which is also referred to as kung-fu, Chinese Martial Arts is the collective term for the martial art practices which originated and developed in China.
Wushu, also known as Chinese Martial Arts is the well-spring of all Asian martial practices. Wushu Origins may be traced back to early man and his struggle for survival in the harsh environment during Bronze Age (3000 – 1200BC), or even earlier, a struggle that led to the developments of techniques to defend against both wild animals and other human beings.
Over its long history, wushu has developed into numerous distinct styles and systems, each incorporating their own techniques, tactics, principles and methods, as well as the use of a wide variety of traditional weaponry. Therefore it is time-honoured, rich in content and diversified in forms.
As Wushu has a vast origins, there are not a single school that personifies itself as the only Wushu Origins. In the olden days, where Kungfu or Wushu is widely practised, there tend to be an level of adaption that the practitioners may choose to differentiate their Wushu Origins and also for its practical usage.
The differing styles though have emerged focus on many aspects of combat, but more importantly they have absorbed the popular philosophies and moral practices of the people in China over the past 5000 years of development.
Theoretically founded on Chinese Cultural, the use of bare hands and weapons with movement like 踢, 打, 摔, 拿, 击, 刺, 劈, 扎, and others attack and defense techniques as its main content.
Couple with Sports exercises, routines, and sparring as the expressions of sports movement so as to achieve inner cultivation, physical and mental strengthening, improving of one’s Wushu techniques.
Wushu Origins has developed beyond just a simple system of attack and defense and has become a way to cultivate the body, mind and spirit in a positive way that is beneficial to all that practice it.
